What We Do
C. V. Associates NY; PE, LS, P.C. (CVA) is a certified MBE and DBE consulting Engineering and Land Surveying firm. Established in 1995, the firm provides construction inspection services for both new construction and the rehabilitation of bridge and roadway projects, highway and bridge design, maintenance inspection, inspection and analysis, and surveying. CVA has worked for different public agencies such as NYSDOT, NYSTA, NYCDOT, PANY&NJ, NJDOT, CTDOT, PENNDOT, NYS Bridge Authority and Army Corp of Engineers. Successful and timely completion has been a key indicator of CVA’s projects.
Maintenance Inspections
CVA, both as a Prime and Subconsultant, has focused extensively on maintenance inspection projects for the region’s infrastructure including bridges, culverts, overhead sign structures and other facilities. We have been working on maintenance inspection contracts since 1999. We have managed concurrent inspection projects for several agencies over vast geographic regions requiring extensive project management and coordination between inspection activities, WZTC and rehabilitation contracts being performed on those structures at the same time.
Construction Inspection and Management
CVA, both as Prime and Subconsultant, has provided construction inspection services on several CIS projects for NYSDOT, NYSTA, PANY&NJ and municipalities. CVA has Construction Inspectors at various NICET/ASCE levels, with ACI, AMPP, OSHA and other relevant certifications, who are very familiar with the policies and procedures of these agencies. Our available inspectors have worked as Office Engineers and Construction Inspectors on various projects and have been providing construction supervision for the rehabilitation/ replacement of many bridges and several miles of highway paving with associated drainage, curbing, pavement markings and repair. Located in both large and small urban areas, some projects involved substantial community liaison work; coordination with various city and county authorities and other transportation agencies; complicated MP&T staging with extensive field changes; high traffic volumes; and night work.
Structural and Highway and Bridge Design
CVA has worked on projects involving boring inspections, in-depth inspections, seismic analysis and design, preparation of design reports and development of design alternatives, MPT plans, Phases I thru VI designs including PS&E for NYSDOT, NYCDOT and NYCDEP. Our staff has broad educational qualifications and backgrounds and extensive experience on these types of projects. They have good knowledge of present-day analysis and standard codes (NYSDOT, AASHTO) and are familiar with both Metric and English units
MAINTENANCE INSPECTIONS
CVA has emerged as a leader in maintenance inspection by performing concurrent, multiple contracts. Our inspection teams have proven to maintain accurate and timely submissions of reports while adhering to the agency’s specific needs.
CVA has worked on Biennial Bridge / Large Culvert / Overhead Sign Inspection Contracts conducting routine hands on maintenance inspection of bridges, large culverts, overhead signs, high mast lights and long span bridges for NYSDOT, NYSTA, NJDOT, NYCDOT, Army Corp of Engineers.
CONSTRUCTION INSPECTION

CVA provides various construction inspection services, both as a Prime and Subconsultant for several agencies. Our projects included bridge replacement, preservation and rehabilitation, roadway reconstruction, mill and fill, pavement markings and repair, sidewalk and ADA ramps, streetscape, retaining walls and roofing of facilities.
On all of our projects, CVA works pro-actively to manage the project effectively, anticipate problems arising in the field and coming up with appropriate solutions for those situations. CVA has a successful track record in mobilizing multiple construction inspectors at multiple construction sites simultaneously. This is evidenced by our various projects for Construction Inspection Services by various public agencies. Because of our quick response and our effective management of such projects, we have been awarded consecutive CIS projects.
LAND SURVEYING

CVA has a full-service Land Surveying Division staffed by professionals with a wide variety of experience to handle any type of survey project. It is a diversified, hi-tech branch providing surveying services to both residential and commercial projects. Services include:

– Boundary and Acreage Survey
– Topographical Surveys and Mapping
– Earthwork Calculations and
– Construction Stakeouts
CVA owns and maintains the latest technologically advanced survey equipment and software to maintain our competitive edge in the survey market place. We utilize state of the art Leica surveying equipment (electronic total stations, data-collection and GPS); our mapping is done in AutoCAD version 14. We also incorporate Micro station, ArcGIS, and Carlson Software, which allows us to convert AutoCAD v.14 drawings into earlier versions and vice versa, making it easier for us to deliver data to our clients in a format that works for them. Our Senior Surveyor performs all survey calculations and personally oversees all field work and mapping.

Our smaller size allows management to address issues faster and with less chance of errors. This responsiveness shows up in project management, engineering, and inspection.
HIGHWAY DESIGN

CVA is providing support for the Design Oversight and Design Quality Assurance effort on a number of Design-Build Projects, including but not limited to: Kew Gardens, Kendrick Road Bridge Replacement (Region 4), I-190, NY 265 over the New York Power Authority Reservoir Superstructure Replacements (Region 5), Route 427 over the Chemung River Bridge Replacement (Region 6) and the I-390 Interchange Improvements Project (Region 4).
HYDROLOGIC & HYDRAULIC ANALYSIS
C.V. Associates NY; PE, LS, P.C. team represents an industry leader in condition survey and inspection of dams, bridges, culverts and drainage systems and hydrologic and hydraulic analysis and modeling. We have inspected more than 10,000 dam, bridge and culvert structures in the past 10 years in and around the New York area, including concrete and earthen dams. CVA is experienced in the preparation of Emergency Action Plans (EAP) for High and Intermediate hazard potential dams as well as, environmental, wetland, and historic preservation issues related to the repair, rehabilitation or permanent removal of dam structures. Currently featuring in-house expertise that can be mobilized at a moment’s notice, as well as civil engineering experts with decades of experience.
Engineering Inspection of Dams… CVA is fully equipped to and has extensive experience in the detailed inspection of water resource projects including dams, hydraulic structures and spillways, dikes, and levees including locks, guard gates, fixed crest dams, moveable dams, taintor gates, spillways, terminals, guide structure, and hydraulic systems. CVA has developed specific access and mobilization techniques for each type of structure, and can provide cost-effective and timely approach to the inspection and survey.
